As of October 2015 all new lunches will only be posted on Instagram (and shared on Twitter).

Curse you, Perry the Platypus!!!

A pretty simple Doofenshmirtz & Perry lunch today for John. Doofenshmirtz is drawn onto a ham & cheese sandwich with an Empire Jack cheese speech bubble. I couldn't write small enough with the food gels or markers so the "Curse you..." is written on paper. I warned him so he doesn't somehow try and eat it, too. In the top left are grapes with a hollowed out hard cooked egg with Agent P drawn on & the top right has the yolk from the egg mixed with some spicy brown mustard so he can devil his egg at lunch time. He also has an unpictured yogurt cup.

Colleen Oakes' Wendy Darling (a #worklunch in @EasyLunchboxes)

Omigosh, you guys ... this book is so amazingly amazing!!! I was given an advanced copy to read by NetGalley, started reading it yesterday and will probably finish reading it tonight at work ... so what better time to have a book based on the amazing cover art???  (I even rambled about it on the book blog already -- it's that good that I don't need to wait until it's done to say it's that good!)
I have California blend vegetables with cheese sauce under the cover art (made from Empire Jack cheese), 2 hard cooked eggs and some left over chicken thighs. In case you were wondering. Now, go pre-order the book.

Only slacking off a little bit...

Only missed posting two lunches (I think)! Work has been crazy again and on top of that my brain isn't back in the swing of the whole "make a lunch, post a lunch" thing again yet. He's gotten lunch at school a few times so, luckily, that only means that I've missed posting two! (If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen them there ....)

Pepperoni & cheese in spinach flatbread, grapes, olives, pumpkin seeds.

Pepperoni & cheese (again) on light multigrain bread, grapes, carrots w/ ranch, pork rinds

Cupcake Lunch

John has wanted a Five Nights At Freddies lunch to go in the lunchbox he decorated and today he got it.
The "cupcake" is a ham & cheese sandwich with empire jack candle. He's also got a hard cooked egg, grapes, pumpkin seeds, and an unpictured yogurt tube.

14 September 2015

Pepperoni Provolone Wrap

Just a simple lunch today with flat bread rolled up with pepperoni slices and provolone cheese (melted so it sticks together better), grapes, black olives & petite carrots.

"Blog Logo Day"

When I suggested bacon as part of tomorrow's lunch, John got the idea for "blog logo day" with pics from here AND the book blog, The Well-Read Pirate Queen (which he also contributes to from time to time)!

The bacon is, of course, bacon. The "nerd glasses" are drawn on a hard cooked egg. The egg has been cut in half so he could have deviled eggs, with the filling in the small container above. Our book blog logo is drawn verrrrrrry carefully onto a slice of Empire Jack cheese on top of Veggie Sticks (which, I just noticed, totally match our color scheme here!). There are also, of course, grapes. Heaven forbid he gets a lunch without at least 10 grapes in it.

09 September 2015

Bender from Futurama

John's father got him hooked on Futurama so it was absolutely no surprise when he asked for a Bender lunch.

Bender (and his name) is Empire Jack cheese and is sitting on Veggie Sticks. He also has a chili cheese sausage, sliced olives, grapes and a hard cooked egg.

07 September 2015

Angry Birds Terence

The first day of fourth grade tomorrow & John requested an Angry Birds lunch featuring Terence!
He has three small ham & cheese sandwiches for three different versions of Terence, a hard cooked egg with a pig drawn on, sunflower seeds, grapes & pork rinds.

Coming soon to ... well ... HERE!

There's been a bit of a makeover going on and not only with the general look of the blog, but in its focus, as well. School will be starting up again for John on the 8th and he's committed to going low-ish carb at that point.

We're not going extreme keto low-carb ... we're going low-ISH-carb. It won't be a total elimination diet for him. He'll still get his fruits and starchy veggies and breads and some carby-snacks, but when we buy the rare box of ice cream it'll last us a couple of weeks rather than a couple of days. When he has a Pringles craving he'll have a serving at a time, not a full-size can. In general we're just going to be smarter and more thoughtful about what goes into our bodies. He knows that he's bigger around than he should be and that he's not comfortable with that ... nor is he comfortable at the prospect of following after his relatives with severe weight issues (including yours truly). He wants to nip it in the bud.

And you'll only be seeing lunches here so when you don't see heaps of vegetables don't start spazzing out on me. We get them, honest.

So. That's that.

Inspired by the Hattie Davish mystery series

Since the beginning of the month I've been flying through the Hattie Davish mystery series by Anna Loan-Wilsey. I'm currently reading the fourth book in the series which is due to come out in two weeks, but you can glimpse teasers of the first three here:

Not only are they great reads, but Hattie has given me inspiration to lunch!

Hattie is a traveling secretary-turned-amateur-sleuth who loves botany (the cheese leaves on the veggie/egg casserole), all sorts of cake (the coffee cake in the top right), a good cup of tea or coffee (the cup pick), and the latest in hats (the pick stuck in my grape). I was tempted to try and draw a typewriter, but was feeling a little overwhelmed at the thought.

John's first #Narnia lunch!

He's been warned about the lamp post so he won't accidentally bite into it!

Slumptastic

I swear I'm still feeding John. Occasionally I pack myself something to take to work, too. Of course, you wouldn't know it from the blogging ... or lack there of. Once in a while I'll bother taking a picture and tossing it onto Instagram but for the most part I don't even bother with that.

It's a slump.

I'm sorry.

There's just over a month left to the school year here and we're opting to not do summer school for the first time since he started pre-school at the age of 3.

It's highly unlikely that I'll be blogging his lunches over the summer.

I MAY try and pick up making myself blog-worthy lunches again for work. Or I may not.

I just wanted to let you (whoever may still be out there paying attention) know that we are, in fact, alive and well and eating ... even if the slump demons are preventing me from proving it in the form of visual representation.

Magic School Bus : The Friz & Liz

John's been having a Magic School Bus love-fest lately so today he's got The Friz & Liz for lunch!
Ms Frizzle is an egg salad sandwich. Liz and the words are colby jack cheese. There are also Mini Slim Jims, grapes, fruit snacks, and Green Giant Veggie Puffs.

RIP Terry Pratchett

I lunch my way through grief.
Tiffany Aching and a Wee Free Man out of Provolone on top of eggplant parm & pasta with grapes and an orange cupcake. Comfort food is necessary.

I have Nanny Ogg's Cookbook but didn't want to take the time to go through it quite yet. I probably wouldn't have been able to focus through the tears.

Introducing New EasyLunchboxes Urban!!!

I am SO excited about the new lid colors for EasyLunchboxes! John and I have been ELB fans for a long time now and these new colors just make our hearts super happy. Olive, Brown, Grey and Charcoal! (John has already laid claim to the olive but maybe he'll let me use it sometimes for my work lunch.)

He has no school tomorrow (dangerously low temperatures in the forecast) OR next week (mid-winter recess), so I get to be the first one to use them with my work lunch for tonight! I packed some "Philly Steak Pasta" (penne, alfredo sauce, onions, sandwich steaks, mushrooms & provolone hearts), a cinnamon applesauce cup, and some Valentine gummies. (Obviously the diet has flown south for the winter!) I opted for the Charcoal lid for my first use as it was the color I was most excited about. They're ALL gorgeous, though, and will be used quite frequently.

Of course, you can get your own set at Amazon ... and if you use my associate link here it'll add a little bit to our account so maybe we can buy a second set and not have to fight over the olive lid ;)

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III

John asked for Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon for lunch today! He also wrote his mini book review which will go up on the other blog at some point this afternoon.

01 February 2015

Maxwell from Scribblenauts

For Monday John asked to have Maxwell from Scribblenauts for lunch. He recently got Scribblenauts Unlimited on his new laptop and loves it!

Maxwell is drawn onto Empire Jack cheese and sits on top of a small bologna sandwich. Surrounding him are Veggie Straws and Scrabble Jr Cheez-Its. The top right is blueberry yogurt. The top left has yogurt raisins and fruit snacks.

Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon

John and I just finished reading Cressida Cowell's How To Train Your Dragon and we absolutely loved it! He'll be writing his review for the other blog in the next couple of days but first ... lunch!

The book. (It's an Amazon Associate link.)

The chosen image with cheese version.

The lunch!

John Made a Five Nights at Freddy's Lunch!

John loves watching Five Nights At Freddy's videos on YouTube and he really loves drawing the characters! Playing the game? Well, that kinda scares him for now. Maybe some day. In the meantime he's happy with drawing and watching and if gets me out of making lunch? I'm all for it ;)

For his lunch he drew Foxy the Pirate on cheese and he's sitting on top on a ham & cheese half sandwich. There's also yogurt raisins, SnaPea Crisps with dip, vitamin gummies, and a chocolate heart.

12 January 2015

Judy Moody Gets Famous! (Megan McDonald and @PeterHReynolds) in @EasyLunchboxes

Last week John read Judy Moody Gets Famous! and absolutely loved it! I swear if Judy was a real girl John would have a real crush! He wrote another mini review for it on the book blog which you can read HERE.

His lunch is on the light side since he's been battling a stomach bug and didn't want much. He has grapes, fruit snacks, veggie straws, bologna sandwich J & M, and Empire Jack cheese for the remaining letters and Judy herself. It's all packed in an EasyLunchbox.

06 January 2015

The first (of probably many) Diary of a Wimpy Kid lunch!

Over the holiday break John and I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid together and we both loved it! John even wrote a mini-review for my other blog which you can go read HERE. It came as absolutely no surprise when he asked for his first school lunch of 2015 to be from the book cover:
It's a snackyish lunch with Greg and the words out of Emire Jack cheese, crackers, vitamin/Omega-3 gummies, grapes, a hard cooked egg, and ham (with spicy brown mustard) and veggie straws in the side container.
